The Republic of Kazakhstan U18 Athletics Championships for boys and girls born in 2009–2010 have started in Shymkent. The competition is being held from June 24 to 26.
Following the first day of competition, Darya Potocheskaya won the gold medal in the women’s 400 meters (57.84), Roman Verchenko claimed victory in the men’s shot put (15.23 m), and the East Kazakhstan Region women’s team won the 4×100-meter relay in 49.78 seconds.
Silver medals in the 100 meters were won by Darya Sitnikova (12.67) and Daniil Mironenko (11.10).
Bronze medalists included Amina Zhaynakova (100 m), Timur Zhanasov (400 m), Platon Kruglov (pole vault), Zukhra Karimova (high jump), and the East Kazakhstan Region men’s team in the 4×100-meter relay.
At the end of the first day, the East Kazakhstan Region team had won a total of three gold, two silver, and five bronze medals.
