Results of the Kazakhstan U23 Athletics Championships

60 m The women’s event featured 20 participants, but there were only two real contenders for the gold: Kashafutdinova and Mikhina. Both are stars of national athletics, though in different disciplines. Rima, who focuses more on short sprints, gained a tiny but decisive 0.03-second advantage in the final. Meanwhile, there is currently no alternative to Vitaliy Zems in the men’s event. Rustam Almagambetov from Almaty challenged the Karaganda leader and even broke the 7-second barrier, but couldn’t catch Vitaliy, finishing 0.07 seconds behind. Notably, all three medalists in this discipline managed to run under 7 seconds.

Women (20 participants):

  1. Rima Kashafutdinova (Karaganda Reg.) – 7.43

  2. Elina Mikhina (East Kazakhstan) – 7.46

  3. Alexandra Mishchenko (Pavlodar Reg.) – 7.89

Men (23 participants):

  1. Vitaliy Zems (Karaganda Reg.) – 6.83

  2. Rustam Almagambetov (Almaty) – 6.9

  3. Sergey Rusak (Pavlodar Reg.) – 6.99

400 m In the preliminary heats, East Kazakhstan athlete Anastasia Sauer set a personal best of 1:02.99 to qualify for the final. Unfortunately, she couldn’t replicate that success in the decisive race. In the men’s category, the top three consisted of athletes who ran under 51 seconds. Sadly, our local athlete Evgeniy Arkhipov was not among them, finishing with a “wooden medal” as the fastest runner to miss the podium.

Women (7 participants):

  1. Irina Tyuleneva (South Kazakhstan) – 58.94

  2. Adelina Akhmetova (Karaganda Reg.) – 1:00.22

  3. Varvara Lisichkina (Karaganda Reg.) – 1:00.98 …5. Anastasia Sauer (East Kazakhstan) – 1:05.53

Men (19 participants):

  1. Dmitry Karaulov (Aktobe Reg.) – 50.32

  2. Damir Akhmetov (Karaganda Reg.) – 50.57

  3. Alexander Pudovinnikov (South Kazakhstan) – 50.65

  4. Evgeniy Arkhipov (East Kazakhstan) – 51.83

1500 m The most experienced participant, Zhanna Mamazhanova, was born and started her career in East Kazakhstan before moving to Almaty. While we are proud of her success, she couldn’t secure the top title this time, as Ryzhikova and Fandyushina were in a league of their own. As for Alexey Gusarov from Almaty, the competition doesn’t seem to matter. Just three days ago, he was the fastest at this distance in the Senior National Championships. Now, he has become the strongest among the youth as well. Surprisingly, Gusarov ran 3 seconds faster than he did in the senior championship!

Women (10 participants):

  1. Victoria Ryzhikova (North Kazakhstan) – 4:32.11

  2. Evgenia Fandyushina (Pavlodar Reg.) – 4:33.66

  3. Zhanna Mamazhanova (East Kazakhstan) – 4:45.03 …7. Moldir Seitkhanova (East Kazakhstan) – 5:04.62

Men (13 participants):

  1. Alexey Gusarov (Almaty) – 4:00.26

  2. Duman Gabdygaliev (Karaganda Reg.) – 4:04.53

  3. Sailau Temirtasov (North Kazakhstan) – 4:04.8 …9. Birzhan Sagatbekov (East Kazakhstan) – 4:14.61

HIGH JUMP Yuriy Dergachev secured another victory. Unlike the senior championships held two days prior, the competition in Karaganda was weaker, and without strong rivals, Dergachev didn’t reach his maximum. Still, jumping 2.2m while knowing there’s more in the tank is an elite result.

    • Men: 1. Yuriy Dergachev (Karaganda) – 2.2; 2. Roman Loshkarev (Almaty) – 2.16; 3. Lev Shi-Mo-Syn (SKO) – 2.00; …5. Oleg Belov (EKR) – 1.82

POLE VAULT Erbol Kalenov from Ust-Kamenogorsk continues to improve, matching his personal best at this youth championship. The main sensation was the “no-height” result for Nikita Filippov (competing out of contest), who was the national runner-up just two days ago.

    • Men: 1. Yaroslav Omelnitskiy (Karaganda) – 4.7; 2. Erbol Kalenov (EKR) – 4.4; 3. Evgeniy Marchenkov (Almaty) – 4.2

    • Women: 1. Victoria Kibler (Almaty) – 3.00

LONG JUMP In the men’s long jump, gold was decided by a single centimeter: Alexander Kiselev beat Almaty’s Rinat Kaisarov. In the women’s event, Karaganda athletes swept the podium.

    • Men: 1. Alexander Kiselev (Karaganda) – 7.35; 2. Rinat Kaisarov (Almaty) – 7.34; 3. Takhirzhan Kadyrkulov (Akmola) – 7.3

    • Women: 1. Natalya Volchek (Karaganda) – 5.79; 2. Maria Ovchinnikova (Karaganda) – 5.63; 3. Lyubov Lebedeva (Karaganda) – 5.6

PENTATHLON (WOMEN) Nadezhda Kirnos (Mangystau) became the youth pentathlon queen. Strong performances in sprints and the 800m, combined with stability in shot put and long jump, secured her gold. Her only weak point was the high jump.

    1. Nadezhda Kirnos – 3489; 2. Evelina Klimenko – 3348; 3. Zamira Razhabova – 3281; 4. Oksana Karpiy (EKR) – 2780

200 m RUN With the main favorites (Mikhina and Zems) absent, Rima Kashafutdinova and Rustam Almagambetov won their finals with significant leads.

    • Women: 1. Rima Kashafutdinova – 24.43; 2. Lyubov Ushakova – 24.94; 3. Alexandra Mishchenko – 25.44

    • Men: 1. Rustam Almagambetov – 21.91; 2. Damil Sutzhanov – 22.35; 3. Sergey Rusak – 22.43

800 m RUN Imanmadi Kusmanov from Semey provided a pleasant surprise, running a perfect race to bring East Kazakhstan its second gold medal.

    • Men: 1. Imanmadi Kusmanov (EKR) – 1:53.45; 2. Damir Akhmetov – 1:55.24; 3. Shattyk Duisenkan – 1:55.94

3000 m RUN Zhanna Mamazhanova (Almaty/EKR) claimed victory, pleasing her home region fans. In the men’s race, Alexey Gusarov continued his dominance.

    • Women: 1. Zhanna Mamazhanova – 10:11.41

    • Men: 1. Alexey Gusarov – 8:46.79

4×400 m RELAY The EKR men’s team (Unzhakov, Arkhipov, Kusmanov, Sutyagin) led until the final leg, but eventually took a surprise silver after a strong finish by Karaganda.

    • Men: 1. Karaganda – 3:24.75; 2. EKR – 3:26.95; 3. Akmola – 3:28.95

HURDLES Vitaliy Litzenberger (EKR) achieved a major breakthrough, finishing second and achieving the “Master of Sport” standard while setting a personal best.

    • Men: 1. Vyacheslav Zems – 8.20; 2. Vitaliy Litzenberger (EKR) – 8.25

    • Shot Put (Men): 1. Nikita Punkin (Kostanay) – 13.90

HEPTATHLON (MEN) Magzhan Zhakypbekov won three out of seven disciplines, but a lack of stability in the others meant he took silver.
