World U-20 Championships kick off in the USA: Sofia Kidenko to represent East Kazakhstan

Today, August 5, the World Athletics U-20 Championships opened in Eugene, Oregon, USA, for athletes under the age of 20. The competition will run through August 9. Kazakhstan is represented at the championships by 11 athletes — competing in running, race walking, triple jump, pole vault, and discus throw. The only representative of the East Kazakhstan region on the national team is Sofia Kidenko. At the Asian U-20 Championships in Hong Kong, she posted the best result among Kazakhstani athletes in this event over the past 20 years, breaking 55 seconds for the first time with a time of 54.75. She also won silver as part of the 4×400m relay team at the Asian Championships for the third consecutive time. We wish Sofia and all the athletes good luck!
