Askar Omirzak wins bronze medal in decathlon at Asian U20 Championships

Representative of East Kazakhstan Region Askar Omirzak won the bronze medal in the decathlon at the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships currently taking place in Hong Kong. Over two days of competition, the Kazakh combined-events athlete confidently completed all ten disciplines of the decathlon. On the first day, he ran 100 metres in 11.07 seconds, jumped 6.09 m in the long jump, threw the shot put 12.33 m, cleared 1.78 m in the high jump, and finished the 400 metres in 49.79 seconds. On the second day, Askar clocked 14.75 seconds in the 110 m hurdles, threw the discus 39.73 m, cleared 3.70 m in the pole vault, threw the javelin 45.67 m, and completed the 1500 metres in 4:42.56. At the end of the competition, Askar scored 6774 points, set a personal best, and finished third among Asia’s strongest U20 decathletes. India’s Rahul Jakhar won the gold medal, while his compatriot Upkar Upkar took silver.
