Walking 20 kilometers is a discipline related to the athletic walking of the athletics program. It is held on the highway. 20 km walking has been included in the Olympic Games program for men since 1956, and for women since 2000. The main mistake recorded by the judges is a violation of the walking style, the detection of the flight phase when both legs leave the ground.
History
The men’s 20 km walking discipline replaced 10 km walking in 1956. The women’s World Championships program included the 10 km walking discipline, and since 1995 it has been replaced by the 20 km distance.
Interesting facts
For women, walking 20 km is the first and so far the only type of athletic walking in the Olympic Games program
