The fourth stage of the Diamond League has ended in Rome, where the Olympic Champion of London 2012 showed the best result of the season!
Predictably, no other athlete could get into the dispute of the big three Rojas-Ibargun-Rypakov for getting into the top three. Olga Rypakova, unfortunately for us, could not become the current leaders of the competition. After the first attempt, she lost to Catherine Ibarguen from Colombia (14.24 m vs. 14.43 m), and after the second, to Yulimar Rojas. At the same time, it was the second jump that Olga succeeded best, because when she performed it, she “flew away” by 14.64 m. By the way, this is only 14 cm less than her medal result at the Olympic Games in Rio 2016. And considering that Rypakova’s main start will be only in August, our star countryman is already demonstrating excellent readiness with this jump.
This jump was not enough to stay in second place. In the second half of the competition, Katerina Ibarguen “jumped out” and in the last attempt made a jump of 14.78 m, but the Olympic Champion in 2016 did not become the winner of the competition either. The laurels of the triumphant went to the Venezuelan athlete Yulimar Rojas, who reached the mark of 14.84 m in the fifth jump.
Olga Rypakova’s third place allowed her to score six points in the Diamond League standings and earn $4,000 in prize money.
