Japan and the International Olympic Committee have agreed that the Olympic Games in Tokyo will open on July 23, 2021, NHK reported, citing informed sources. They will last until August 8.
The Paralympic Games are expected to open on July 24, 2021.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We support the new 2021 dates for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games announced today by the Japanese organizers and the IOC. This gives our athletes the time they need to get back to training and competing.
Everyone needs to be flexible and compromise, and we are now working with the organizers of the World Athletics Championships in Oregon to set new dates in 2022 for our World Athletics Championships. We are also negotiating with the Commonwealth Games Federation and the European Championships. We would like to thank our Oregon 21 Organizing Committee, their stakeholders, and our partners for their cooperation and willingness to explore all options.”
