Brilliant Performance by EKR Javelin Throwers

Brilliant Performance by EKR Javelin Throwers At the International Athletics Competition for junior teams (born 1998-99) of Central Asian countries, athletes from the East Kazakhstan Region (EKR) secured first place in the javelin throw. Artur Gafner achieved a result of 72.77 m, setting a new Kazakhstan record and meeting the “Master of Sports” standard. Furthermore, he earned a spot at the Asian Junior Athletics Championships, which will take place from June 4–6 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. In the women’s category, Varvara Nazarova won with a throw of 50.23 m, setting a new senior record for Kazakhstan.

Ust-Kamenogorsk Athletes Secure Victory at the National Sports Games

Ust-Kamenogorsk Athletes Secure Victory at the National Sports Games Athletes from Ust-Kamenogorsk gave away only one victory out of four possible on the second day of competition. Both the men’s and women’s teams from the regional center claimed victory in the 4x200m relay. The women’s race proved difficult, as the local team faced a tough challenge from a strong Ridder squad. The final advantage for the champions was a mere few hundredths of a second. The men’s race was equally intense, with runners from Semey acting as the main competitors. During the relay, the guests even took the lead, but when your roster includes a “trump card” like Vlad Leshin—the Kazakhstan champion in the 200m—you can afford to give opponents a small head start. Starting the final leg, Leshin overtook his competitor from Semey like a Ferrari passing a bus, leading his team to a victory with a solid margin. The men’s medley relay (400-300-200-100m) also ended in triumph for Ust-Kamenogorsk. Notably, the home team featured the same athletes as the previous discipline: Yuri Eger, Vladislav Leshin, Dmitry Romanov, and Vitaly Litzenberger. This time, the Ridder team tried to challenge Ust-Kamenogorsk, but Leshin and Co. once again achieved a confident victory. The struggle in the women’s medley relay was much more heated. The Ridder national team (Irina Smolnikova, Arina Kharlamova, Alina Savelyeva, and Olga Denisova) managed to withstand the attacks of the hosts and rightfully took first place, beating Ust-Kamenogorsk by just 0.41 seconds. This single victory was not enough for Ridder to maintain first place in the overall standings of the athletics tournament at the XX National Sports Games. The overall winners were the athletes from Ust-Kamenogorsk, who outperformed their competitors by only 14 points! TOURNAMENT RESULTS 4×200 m Relay. The primary successes of the EKR national team in flat racing were linked to the men’s side

The primary successes of the EKR national team in flat racing were linked to the men’s side. Vladislav Sutyagin and Evgeniy Arkhipov put on a real show in the 400m distance. They hit the final straight together, leaving their competitors far behind. In the final meters, Sutyagin proved faster, edging out Arkhipov by just 0.36 seconds! Evgeniy, however, did not remain “just” a silver medalist for long. He went on to be the fastest in the 800m, beating the formidable Karaganda runner Duman Gabdygaliev by 0.69 seconds. It appears that Ridder’s long-distance master Moldir Seitkhanova is regaining her former form. While the winter season was clearly unsuccessful for her, the beginning of summer has proven “fruitful” in terms of medals. To her “bronze” at 1500m, Moldir added an unconditional victory in the 3000m race! Seitkhanova outperformed her closest pursuer, Albosyn Zhupaeva, by nearly a minute in that triumphant run. Ust-Kamenogorsk runner Oryngul Zkrienova is back on the winning track, taking first place in the 100m hurdles. Having recently returned to action after a difficult leg injury, she is already churning out victories one after another. Notably, EKR secured a double podium in this race: Erika Kem finished third. Erika also stood out with a convincing victory at this championship, bringing a gold medal to the EKR team in the shot put as the only athlete to send the shot past the 11m mark. The javelin throw competitions concluded with a double victory for the EKR team. In the men’s event, Ust-Kamenogorsk athlete Artur Gafner was head and shoulders above the rest, outthrowing his competitors by nearly 20 meters! Among the women, Varvara Nazarova’s triumph was equally convincing. High jumper Nadezhda Dubovitskaya from Semey also managed to win, though not with her most impressive result. It is evident that the coaches of last year’s Asian Junior Championship bronze medalist are not aiming for her peak performance at the very start of the season. Alexey Gubanov Source: vksport.kz

Olga Rypakova Takes Third at the Diamond League Opening Stage

Olga Rypakova Takes Third at the Diamond League Opening Stage The competitions of the first stage of the Diamond League took place in the capital of Qatar. Nine athletes from nine different countries participated in the women’s triple jump. This event offered a perfect opportunity to witness the rivalry between the two main stars of the discipline and contenders for the Rio 2016 Olympic gold: Olga Rypakova and Colombia’s Caterine Ibargüen. However, these two were not the nominal favorites in Doha. As it turns out, the best result of the current season up to that point belonged to… Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela! Relatively unknown to the wider circle of track and field fans, Rojas won the World Indoor Championships in March of this year, though her winning result of 14.41 m was hardly seen as a major threat. Yet, she held the world lead for the season until this event, with a jump of 14.69 m set in Madrid in January. Neither World Champion Ibargüen nor Olympic Champion Olga Rypakova had reached that mark this season. Furthermore, our compatriot had not made a single competitive attempt prior to the Doha stage. Plans to compete at the domestic Winter Championships of Kazakhstan were in place, but the triple jump star withdrew at the last moment. After the first attempt, Rypakova sat in second place with a modest 14.23 m, which was enough to take some risks and aim for a more confident result. However, after the second round, it became clear that the mark needed to be improved significantly to secure a podium spot. Rojas began setting one personal best after another. Her second attempt reached 14.61 m, while her third and fifth jumps saw the Venezuelan sensation fly to 14.79 m and 14.92 m, respectively! Only Ibargüen was able to counter the 21-year-old Venezuelan’s boldness, posting a jump of 15.04 m in her fifth attempt. Rypakova is clearly not rushing her preparation for Rio de Janeiro. Up until the fifth round, she showed mediocre results, including a jump of only 13.88 m in her fourth attempt. However, one should never underestimate the remarkable character of the Ust-Kamenogorsk star; in her fifth jump, Rypakova reached 14.61 m! A very solid start for the beginning of the summer season. Olga finished third. But this does not mean she isn’t ready to win. It means the Olympic Champion has not yet tapped into all her reserves. For instance, last season she never reached the 14.5-meter mark before the World Championships, where she ultimately jumped 14.78 m. Having already hit 14.61 m at the start of the season, one can only imagine what she will achieve in August at the Olympic Games, where her experienced coaches will ensure she reaches her peak form. Diamond League Stage I. Doha, May 6. Triple Jump.
