East Kazakhstan Athletes Win Two Medals at the Asian Athletics Championships
Ridder-based runner Elina Mikhina took second place in the 400m, losing only to Bahraini athlete Mujidat Oluwakemi, who set a new Asian record of 51.67. Interestingly, Mikhina’s final time was slightly slower than her performance in the decisive heat of the Kazakhstan Championships, where she clocked 53.37 seconds.
However, the Bahraini athlete’s lead was so significant that there was little sense in pushing to the absolute limit at the finish line, especially given the risk of injury. As expected, Olga Rypakova became the Asian champion, once again demonstrating her extraordinary character. The Olympic champion’s best performance came in her very last attempt, where she “flew” to a mark of 14.32m. This set a new Asian Championship record. Another Kazakhstani triple jump expert, Irina Ektova, finished third. Among other notable results were Viktoriya Zyabkina’s championship in the 60m, Roman Valiev’s victory in the triple jump, and Mikhail Litvin’s third-place finish in the 400m, which also set a new Kazakhstani record.
