Olga Rypakova: “I feel a surge of strength in myself”

Olga Rypakova: “I feel a surge of strength in myself” Olga Rypakova, the champion of the London Olympics, took part in the awarding ceremony of the long jumpers at the Ust-Kamenogorsk Athletics Championships. Arriving in her hometown for a few days, she immediately went to the Athletics Center for competitions among children born in 2001, pupils of the athletics school named after her — named after Olympic champion Olga Rypakova. It is also noteworthy that the first official competitions in the new arena were held among children! It was impossible to miss such a good luck as to communicate live with a great athlete. And we asked her to answer a few of our questions. — Olya, did you come from Almaty specifically for these competitions? — My husband Denis Rypakov was appointed director of this Center, and he has been here since the beginning of the year. He has a lot of organizational work, and I and the kids miss him. My daughter, due to the May holidays, had a short break from school and therefore we decided to come to our dad to visit our parents. — Now, due to your duties, you will have to visit Ust-Kamenogorsk more often. Will it be difficult to live in two cities? — Of course, it will not be without difficulties. But for the sake of such a big deal, which we started with Akim of East Kazakhstan Region Berdybek Saparbayev, my family made personal sacrifices and do not regret it at all. I want the school in Ust-Kamenogorsk and athletics in Kazakhstan in general to flourish. The summer season will end and, I think, we will live here all the coming winter. — The arena is really amazing! I remember they wanted to open it for the New Year 2014, but you insisted that the builders take their time and take into account the comments you made. In your opinion, have the requirements been met or are there still any rough edges? — With regard to the arena itself, everything has been done as we planned, as we dreamed, as we wanted. The illumination, the length of the tracks, the angle of turns, the coverage — everything corresponds to the holding of international competitions. The work was carried out by high-class Baltic specialists. There are minor comments on the surrounding area and administrative premises, but they will be eliminated in the near future. It is necessary to make sure that in the future nothing interferes with the conduct of training and competitions. — Will your daughter follow her mother’s path? — Well, you know, Nastya is still 9 years old, you can say she is still getting involved. But in principle, I try to force her, I hope that soon it will be her own desire, she will like it. And if not, we will look for another direction. We will not leave it idle. — After the birth of your son, you did not train for a long time. Don’t you want to jump into the pit? — Yes, and I’ve been training for a long time! Maybe in June I will take part in the first starts after the break. — Do you feel strong enough to compete at another Olympics? — Yes, I feel it! The birth of my second child gave me a great incentive, my powers multiplied and exaggerated. The main goal is the 2016 Olympics in Brazil and we will gradually approach it. I really want to prove my title once again and glorify my homeland, my Kazakhstan! Source: sports.kz Author: Valery Chernov

Olga Rybakova is a bronze medalist at the World Championships in London

Just half an hour ago, the long-awaited start of the World Championship ended, where our compatriot Olga Rypakova performed in the triple jump. The start of the competition became more than exciting, because as soon as the Kazakhstani jumper entered the track, her breath caught this minute, and not by chance. Olga Rypakova’s first jump of 14.45 m allowed her to take the leading position, as the rest of the competitors showed significantly lower results in the initial attempt. Unfortunately, the second attempt was not counted, as Olga made a spade, but the athlete’s jump itself showed everyone that Rypakova was ready to fight in earnest.  An unsuccessful jump was followed by a confident one – 14.77 m, not only did this result turn out to be the best for our Olympic champion at this championship, it also turned out to be the best of the season! Surprisingly, Colombian Catherine Ibarguen and Venezuelan athlete Yulimar Rojas demonstrated their combat readiness together with Rypakova. The girls did nothing but challenge each other with each subsequent jump, and the fight flared up more and more! In the fourth attempt, Olga Rypakova “flew away” by 14.32 m, in the fifth she increased her previous result by 20 cm, and in the final one she landed at 14.36 m. As a result, our athlete won the bronze medal, Katerina Ibarguen took the second place, and Yulimar Rojas won the gold. Congratulations from the bottom of our hearts to Olga Rypakova and all those who supported her and followed the development of events, with an honorable third place! Inna Semenyak
