Olga Rypakova won the final of the Diamond League in Zurich

On the twenty-fourth of August, the final Diamond League competitions were held in Switzerland, in which Kazakh athlete Olga Rypakova became the best with a score of 14.55 m. Since the beginning of June, we have been following every “step” of the Diamond League 2017 with bated breath, and yesterday the final stage of one of the most elite athletics competitions took place at the Letzigrund stadium.  In addition to Rypakova, seven other athletes came to Zurich to compete in the women’s triple jump: 2017 world champion Yulimar Rojas, Colombian jumper Catherine Ibarguen, Kimberly Williams from Jamaica, Israeli athlete Hannah Knyazeva-Minenko, Patricia Mamona from Portugal, Polish athlete Anna Yagachik and Elena Panturoy from Romania. And as usual, the farthest jumps were shown by the star trio of Rypakov-Rojas-Ibarguen. In the first attempt, the main athlete of our country “flew away” by 14.38 m and took first place in the final protocol. In attempt number two, Katerina Ibarguen still managed to show a jump further – 14.47 m, and dislodge Olga, but, as it turned out, not for long. In the third attempt, Rypakova landed at the 14.55 m mark – and just this result allowed the Kazakh jumper to stay in first place and rightfully get the title of the best. In the fourth attempt to show a “similar” jump, Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas came out with 14.52 m, but Katerina Ibarguen failed to improve the result shown in the second attempt, and she took third place. Recall that Olga Rypakova managed to win the Diamond League for the second time, for the first time our athlete took the first place in this series of competitions in 2012. Inna Semenyak

Tatyana Samolenko: “When I came to your city for the first time, I remembered my youth”

From August 18 to 23, the Olga Rypakova Athletics Center hosted advanced training courses for coaches. The 1988 Olympic champion in the 3000 m Samoylenko Tatyana Vladimirovna, together with her husband, the USSR decathlon record holder Alexander Valentinovich Apaichev from Ukraine, came to Ust-Kamenogorsk to share their knowledge. Every day was special for the coaches. In the morning, they listened to lectures on various topics: barrier running, middle-distance running, horizontal jumping, as well as about the correct recovery process, the guests shared not only their knowledge, but also told stories from life. Alexander Apaichev has a huge coaching experience, for example, in 2001 he was invited to work with the Qatar athletics team. By the way, Alexander Valentinovich, he gave a lot of examples specifically related to these athletes, so there can be no doubt that it was incredibly interesting to attend the classes! In addition to theory, the coaches also watched videos, discussed topics with the teachers, and asked questions to which they received open and clear answers. In the evening program, practical classes were waiting for all participants of the courses, and the most interesting thing was happening here. Not only the coaches took part, but also the children, and this is a tremendous experience for them. They tried out all the exercises and performance techniques, listening to every word of the Ukrainian lecturers. Alexander Valentinovich and Tatyana Vladimirovna, not only explained, almost on their fingers, but they also showed clearly. On the last day of the course, the teaching staff was waiting for an exam on the lectures they had passed. And during our independent work, we managed to talk with Tatyana Samolenko, and learn a lot of interesting things about this famous runner. – Tatyana Vladimirovna, you recently had a birthday (August 12), and we would like to congratulate you on this wonderful holiday from our federation. I wish you good health, success, and thank you for taking the time to come to Kazakhstan in order to personally share your knowledge with our coaches! – Thank you very much! (smiles) – Tell us, how do you like our city? Is this your first time in Ust-Kamenogorsk? – Yes, in fact, this is my first time in Kazakhstan, especially in Ust-Kamenogorsk! During these days, we managed to make a sightseeing tour, of course, we saw little, but, nevertheless, we visited some places. Having our first degree in hydraulic engineering, we immediately went to the hydroelectric power station. It was very interesting to see and remember my knowledge (laughs). I really liked it. I remember our students came here, but at that time I was training and couldn’t come, I just had to listen to the stories of others. And now, I’ve seen everything with my own eyes and it’s like I’ve returned to my youth. Then we went to the embankment. I really liked it there, right now I often do Nordic walking, and I just fell in love with this embankment. It is very big, you can walk and walk along the river. This is very important for the health of the nation, I think it is very useful, because you can walk not only with Scandinavian walking, but you can also run and ride bicycles. After that, we went to Strelka. At first we were at a loss: “What is an arrow?” (laughs), and then it turned out that this is the place where two rivers will join. Very impressive! Also, we looked into the Orthodox church, and that was the end of our tour, because we had to prepare for the courses. We are pleased with what we saw: you have a very well-mannered people, a wonderful culture of behavior and communication, the streets of the city are clean. – You have visited a lot of places during your sports career, seen a lot of things, and now you have come to us. What are your impressions of our athletics arena? – I want to say that not every city has such arenas in order to practice in winter. The arena impressed not only us, but also those people to whom we sent information about you! They asked me to photograph every corner, every dot, how everything is located compactly. This is very convenient, because your winter is also long, so there are excellent conditions for classes here. Moreover, you have someone to take an example from, many of your Olympic champions, for example Olya Rypakova. I know that she is a very open person, she also shares her experience, communicates with coaches, this is very important! I noticed that you have a lot of children who are engaged even in the summer and want to do it, hence the result! – Tell me, how long have you been teaching courses, personally visiting the coaches? – We come to the courses when we are invited. If they want us to share our knowledge, not only theoretical, but also practical. It was very important for me to share it from a psychological point of view, since I performed in large arenas. I was most impressed that everyone wants to know more about tactics, this is important, because if an athlete is physically ready, then tactically he can still lose. There were a lot of questions from your coaches in the practical classes, and that’s great. We’re going to where they’re waiting for us! For example, Alexander Valentinovich traveled to Baku to give lectures on sprints and hurdles, and in Rio de Janeiro they asked to sort out topics on the all-around. In general, depending on which types you read, I’m mostly based on medium distances. – I know that you have your own methodical book, tell us about it? – (laughs) Having such a lot of experience and victories, I decided to share my experience and the secrets that every Olympic champion has. This book is a method of individual planning of highly qualified athletes in preparation. I took my Olympic cycle for four

Olga Rypakova became the third at the stage in Birmingham

The fourth stage of the Diamond League was held in Birmingham today, where 2012 Olympic champion Olga Rypakova performed in the triple jump. It should be recalled that recently the World Championships were held in London, in which the most famous track and field athlete of Kazakhstan Olga Rypakova won the bronze medal, Colombian athlete Catherine Ibarguen took second place, and Yulimar Rojas from Venezuela became the world champion. Today, these three world stars of athletics took to the track again, but they settled down in the final protocol of the jumper, to put it mildly, chaotically, and for good reason. – The competition was difficult. – Denis Rypakov tells us. – It was very cold, it felt about sixteen degrees. A long jump plug was also installed in the sector. And when the girls got on it, the jump was not quite complete. Olga’s first attempt was small – 14.15 m, her leg was giving way, we can say there was a technical gap in the organization. Those who had distant jumps flew over the bar, for example, Williams. By the fifth and sixth attempts, Olga had already run up, and this run was powerful, but there were small spades of 3 cm, and in the sixth 0.5 cm at all, and these attempts were over 14.70 m. And this gives us hope for Zurich! In the final protocol of the fourth stage of one of the most elite competitions, the girls arranged themselves as follows: 1. Catherine Ibarguen (Colombia) – 14.51 m 2. Kimberly Williams (Jamaica) – 14.44 m 3. OLGA RYPAKOVA (Kazakhstan) – 14.29 m Inna Semenyak

Olga Rypakova: “It is impossible to relax now. There are three more starts ahead!”

Today in the English city of Birmingham, the fourth stage of the Diamond League will be held in women’s triple jump. On the seventeenth of August, the most productive Athlete of Kazakhstan Olga Rypakova went from Ust – Kamenogorsk to England for the next round of the Diamond League, where she will again meet her main rivals-Yulimar Rojas and Katerin Ibarguen, and it remains only to guess how the jumpers will perform this time, because they will not be able to forget about the fight at the World Cup for a long time! Together with them will compete two representatives of Jamaica Kimberly Williams and Shanika Ricketts, Anna Knyazeva-Minenko from Israel, Polish athlete Anna Jagachak, the famous Portuguese athlete Patricia Mamona and Janine Assani-Issuf from France. Today we got in touch with the head of the East Kazakhstan Athletics Federation Denis Rypakov and Olga herself and learned a little about the mood of our athlete before the stage. – Olga, you recently flew from the World Cup in London, and now went to England again, but now to Birmingham for the fourth stage of the Diamond League. Is it difficult to compete in this mode? – We planned to prepare, taking into account the same schedule, knowing when these competitions will be held. The main start of the season, of course, is over, and even the relief inside is felt, because the main thing that we were preparing so hard has already passed, and it has succeeded! But it is impossible to relax, we are preparing further, because ahead is two more stages of the Diamond League and the Asian Games in the premises, which will be held in Ashgabat in September… – These starts are more positive than the previous ones, because the most important thing is the ones that are left behind. Girls compete as they are. But this stage should go better than the second and third! – added Denis Rypakov. The start of the race is at 15:28 local time. Inna Semenyak

There are four days before the start

Yesterday, a flag-raising ceremony was held in Taipei at the Universiade Sports Village. Athletes from different countries came to compete in different sports (21 types). In the general schedule of the Universiade, athletics competitions will be held from August 23 to 28. The Kazakh national team, which is going to Taipei, includes twenty-five athletes representing the city of Almaty and eight regions of Kazakhstan. Track and field athletes are leaving partially, the first to arrive were Victoria Zyabkina, Georgy Sheiko and Polina Repina, these athletes arrived early on August 15, immediately after the World Cup, together with the head coach of the national team of Kazakhstan Grigory Egorov and the sports director of the Athletics Federation Alexander Koshcheev. The rest of the athletes will arrive on August 20-21. Just the same, four athletes from East Kazakhstan Region included in the list of participants of the Universiade will fly out tomorrow evening. Recall that Oryngul Zkrienova will compete in the 100 m hurdles, Varvara Nazarova in the javelin throw, as well as Elina Mikhina in the 400 m and Imanmadi Kusmanov in the 800 m. Contacting the athletes, shortly before their departure, it became known that not all athletes are feeling well, namely Oryngul Zkrienova.  The girl told us that in early August she had to face health problems, and for about a week Oryngul could not fully train, but fortunately, now the athlete’s condition has improved. There are only four days left before the start of the athletics competition, and we are looking forward to hearing from our athletes from the capital of Taiwan. Inna Semenyak

We work “at a pace”

On July 29, the athletes of the East Kazakhstan region, accompanied by coaches, left Ust-Kamenogorsk for training camps at the Bukhtarma reservoir. Every year in the summer, our athletes go out for two weeks to train and take a little break from the hustle and bustle of the city, and this year was no exception. Four meals a day, sun, sea, sand, good living conditions, as well as training twice a day – all this helps to maintain good shape and mood for the upcoming starts. Already in September, the athletes of the younger age category will start competitions, so training in such conditions is an excellent preparation, but the rest of the athletes compete only in winter, but despite this, the guys train without giving up! On the fifth of August, IAAF Kids Athletics competitions were held on the basis of training camps, in which athletes born in 2000 and younger took part. The IAAF Kids Athletics program was established back in 2005 with the aim of popularizing athletics among children, and is one of the largest programs in the field of athletics development. In order for children to fully engage in sports, and at the same time, to make the competitions even more interesting, specialists from the international Association of Athletics federations are developing special techniques and equipment. By the way, IAAF Kids Athletics is oriented not only for federations, but also for schools and other institutions. The program of the last competitions on August 5 included seven competitions: “Shuttle”, “Kangaroo”, “Ball Running”, “Hurdling”, “Jump rope”, “Long jump” and “Formula”. Judging by the names, it is no longer difficult to guess what all these competitions were like. The most difficult for the participants was the last Formula competition, so to say that it was very spectacular is to say nothing. The guys had to do the exercises in a complex way (jumping over barriers and running with obstacles), with all this, they did it for a while. At the end of this stage, the total time of the team was taken into account. Based on the fact that more than seventy people “volunteered” to take part, the athletes were divided into eight teams of nine people, instructed and handed out distinctive uniforms. According to the results of seven types, the judges counted the points scored during the competition, announced the occupied places, and awarded not only the winners and prize-winners, but also the rest of the participants with certificates! Olga Rypakova overcame the qualification barrier on the first attempt

A morning competition session was held in London, during which triple jumpers played for tickets to the finals. To qualify for the finals, the athletes had to overcome the mark of 14.2 m. But, as it turned out, not everyone in this world is ready to conquer such distances. Only seven athletes fulfilled the standard! Olga Rypakova was among them. Moreover, it was our prima who was the most convincing among all her opponents. For example, Katerina Ibarguen from Colombia, the main favorite of this world championship, made it to the final, albeit on the first attempt, but exceeded the required standard by only 1 cm. The owner of the best result of the season in the world, Yulimar Rojas from Venezuela, had to jump twice at all, because in the first attempt she “flew away” by only 14.17 m! Kimberly Williams from Jamaica qualified for the finals only as a “lucky loser” – her result was among the strongest among those who failed to reach the landmark mark. Against the background of all these torments, Rypakova jumped just great – 14.57 m on the first attempt! With this, Olga not only fulfilled the required standard, but also “canceled” all the conversations that arose after an unsuccessful July that Rypakova was far from all right. But in order to win and become one of the winners, you need to jump at least 20 cm further, so we have no choice but to wish our miracle athlete to set a new best personal result of the season! QUALIFICATION RESULTS 1. Olga RYPAKOVA (Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan region) – 14.57 2. Yulimar Rojas (Venezuela) – 14.52 3. Susanna Costa (Portugal) – 14.35 4. Patricia Mamona (Portugal) – 14.29 5. The stage before the “world”

Tomorrow, the third stage of the Diamond League starts in Monaco, in which Kazakhstani athlete Olga Rypakova will perform in the triple jump. The team has been replenished with new bright personalities, so it will be much more interesting to watch them, because each of the athletes already has a “rich” performance history. This time, nine participants will enter the arena: Colombian Catherine Ibarguen, Patricia Mamona from Portugal, Venezuelan athlete Yulimar Rojas, Paraskevi Papachristou from Greece, two French athletes Janine Assani Issouf and Rugi Diallo, Kimbreli Williams from Jamaica, Romanian jumper Elena Andrea Panturoy and athlete representing the Republic of Kazakhstan Olga Rypakova. The day before the start, we managed to talk with Denis and Olga Rypakov, learn about the goals, mood and atmosphere before the competition. – Tell us how the mood is before the next start, because you didn’t really manage to take a break from Rabat? – The fighting spirit! We will hone the technique of jumping at an extremely competitive speed. The main thing is just the same: work on the run-up. Our task is: enter the jump at speed, and keep the maximum speed to the last repulsion, for the correct landing trajectory! All this is like preparing for the World Championships in London, because at the start of the seventh of August we have to be in the best shape! In this working mode, our athlete is preparing for tomorrow’s stage of the Diamond League. And we remind you that tomorrow at 00 : 05 on Kazsport TV channel you will personally be able to watch the performance of our Olympic champion Olga Rypakova in Monaco! Inna Semenyak

Sensational!

Three days after the completion of the second stage of the Diamond League in Rabat, publications are literally “pouring” onto the Internet that the result shown by Olga Rypakova now in Morocco is so low that it would be quite correct to put it on the list of the worst results for the entire time of her performance in the Diamond League. In fact, the situation is interesting. At the end of these starts, many people got the impression that this is all that Olga is capable of, that maybe it wasn’t worth performing at all? Or is Rypakova jumping with results that are her own anti-records? Just yesterday on our website vkoathletics.kz We published an interview with Olga herself and with the head of the Athletics Federation of the East Kazakhstan region Denis Rypakov, who was next to the athlete at the time of the jumper’s performance. The Rypakov family made it clear that the result shown by our athlete was expected and is considered working, because the main start is the World Championship ahead, as well as the main stage of the Diamond League, which will be held in Switzerland on August 24. But for some reason, unfortunately, there is no rest for the rest of us. Usually, in many media it can be easily traced that if suddenly an athlete showed a high result, it means that he is a good athlete, but if low, it means “anti”. The fact that Rypakova’s rivals also showed below their usual result, apparently no one really cares, but still, it’s probably worth looking into the results of the second stage in detail. So, among the eight athletes who entered the Moroccan arena, only Yulimar Rojas from Venezuela was not there. Which, I would like to note, on June twenty-third, lost the South American championship to Brazilian Suarez with a modest result of 14.36 m, although the Brazilian jumper herself went to 14.42 m. Another of Rypakova’s strongest rivals, Katerina Ibarguen, was not at this championship in America, but at the competition in Madrid on July 14, she jumped with exactly the same result as Suarez – 14.42 m. Is it worth saying that the results of these athletes are at least unsuitable, because their personal records are located near the 15 m mark? What is the conclusion from this? What about such results, should we write off all these athletes and retire? Well, that’s not all! We bring to your attention the course of events of the second stage of the Diamond League: In addition to our Olympic champion, seven other athletes came to perform from around the world: Catherine Ibarguen from Colombia, Kimberly Williams from Jamaica, Paraskevi Papachristou from Greece, Gabriela Petrova from Bulgaria, Patricia Mamona from Portugal, Nubia Aparechida Soares from Brazil, and American athlete Andrea Gubel. After the first attempt, absolutely no athlete had a “sky-high” result, and what can I say, there were none at all. At the very beginning of the competition, Paraskevi Papachristou came forward with a score of 14.18 m, Olga Rypakova “landed” after her – 14.10 m, and Katerina Ibargouen became the third with a score of 13.91 m. Just after attempt number two, Papachristou showed her best jump in this competition – 14.21 m, thanks to which the athlete was placed on the third line of the final protocol of the second stage of the Diamond League. And the result that allows athletes to take first and second place, Catherine Ibarguen and Kimberly Williams showed on the third attempt. Further, nothing special happened, the same athletes jumped completely chaotically with each subsequent attempt, showing results lower and higher. All this indicates that athletes are literally being cautious before the upcoming competitions, because keeping everything under control is not an easy job. At the moment, in the overall standings, despite such a “loud” result, which caused a lot of conversations around her, Olga Rypakova is in second place – 11 points, after Colombian athlete Catherine Ibarguen – 15 points. Who knows how the situation will turn out next time, because there is still plenty of time left before the next stage of the Diamond League! Inna Semenyak
