East Kazakhstan claims medals and standards: Day 1 of Kazakhstan U20 Championships
The Kazakhstan U20 Championships have kicked off in Shymkent. On the opening day, the East Kazakhstan team secured podium finishes and achieved qualification standards for major international events. The highlight of the day came from Sofya Kidenko, who won the women’s 400 meters in 55.09 seconds, meeting the qualification standard for the World U20 Championships. Another gold medal was delivered by Konstantin Uteshev in the men’s shot put. His mark of 17.15 meters meets the qualification standard for the Asian Championships. Assan Azamatuly took silver in the men’s long jump with a result of 6.92 meters. Viktoriya Klimantseva earned bronze in the women’s shot put with a throw of 11.74 meters. In the women’s 4×100 meter relay, the East Kazakhstan team (Kamilla Yeliseyeva, Amina Zhaynakova, Nadiya Kerimova, Mariya Cherepanova) finished third in 49.47 seconds. After day one, East Kazakhstan has a full set of medals and a strong position heading into the remaining days of competition. A Seminar on the International Kids’ Athletics Program Was Held at the EKR Specialized Youth Sports School of Athletics
A seminar on the international Kids’ Athletics program, aimed at developing fundamental athletics skills in children, was held at the East Kazakhstan Regional Specialized Youth Sports School of Athletics. The seminar was conducted by international athletics judge, certified lecturer of World Athletics, first-category coach Alexander Kruglikov, and athletics coach Ramiz Kartayev. During the seminar, participants were introduced to modern teaching approaches, practical exercises, and game-based formats designed to develop speed, coordination, and endurance in children. Kids’ Athletics is one of the largest mass participation development programs in the world of sport. It was established in 2002 and underwent a comprehensive update in 2021, becoming available in a digital format. As a result, the program has become more inclusive, flexible, adaptable, and engaging for children, young people, and sports practitioners. Such events contribute to improving teachers’ qualifications and promoting athletics among the younger generation.
School students of Ust-Kamenogorsk took part in the city championship
On April 10, the Ust-Kamenogorsk City Athletics Championship among school students born in 2013 was held at the Olga Rypakova Athletics Center. Young athletes demonstrated their skills in various disciplines, testing their strength, speed, and endurance on the track and in field events. The competition became an important stage for selection into the sports school. Participants gained valuable competitive experience and motivation for further development in athletics.
Excursion to the Athletics Arena
On April 8, an excursion for students of School No. 48 took place at the athletics arena. The students were shown the arena and sports facilities and were told about their features and purpose. They also tried themselves in running and rope climbing, gaining vivid impressions from their introduction to athletics..
Open EKRl Athletics Championship Among All Age Groups
From April 2 to 3, the Open East Kazakhstan Regional Athletics Championship for all age groups was held at the Olga Rypakova Athletics Center. More than 300 athletes from across the region took part in the competition, along with students from general education schools. For many of them, this event became their first serious step into the world of athletics. On the track and in the field, a real battle unfolded for every second and every centimeter: participants demonstrated strength, endurance, and character, with victories often decided in the final meters of the race. Based on the results of the championship, the regional team will be formed to participate in the Republic of Kazakhstan Championship, which will be held in the city of Shymkent. The Open East Kazakhstan Athletics Championship kicked off in Ust-Kamenogorsk
On April 2, the two-day Open East Kazakhstan Regional Athletics Championship began at the “Olga Rypakova” Athletics Center, bringing together athletes from five age categories. The scale of the competition is impressive: both experienced Masters of Sport (born in 2004 and older) and very young participants (born in 2011 and younger) took to the tracks and technical sectors. The championship confirmed its “open” status by gathering representatives from many regions. Competing against the host city, Ust-Kamenogorsk, were strong teams from Ridder, as well as the Zaysan, Glubokovsky, Ulan, Kurchum (including Markakol village), and Samar districts. The first day of the competition took place with massive support from the stands, with about a thousand fans watching the athletes’ performances. A solemn opening ceremony was held, where Olympic champion Olga Rypakova and honored veterans of the sport addressed the participants with words of encouragement. Their presence served as the best motivation for the youth striving for their first major records. The program of the starting day was extremely busy. Athletes demonstrated their skills in various disciplines: 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m runs, 1500m and 3000m runs, 100m hurdles (women) and 110m hurdles (men), 3000m race walk (women), high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, discus throw, hammer throw, javelin throw, and shot put. The Kazakhstan Championship in throwing events, race walking, and road running has concluded in Almaty.
March 27 to 29, 2026, has come to an end. The East Kazakhstan Region team delivered strong performances, winning multiple medals across various disciplines. In the women’s discus throw, Arina Mozulyako became the U20 champion and met the qualification standard for the Asian Championships, while Arina Dudchenko took second place in the U23 category. In the 10 km race walk, Arina Gladysheva won a bronze medal in the U23 category. In the javelin throw, both women and men achieved excellent results: Natalia Sokolova placed first in the U23 category, and Varvara Nazarova won in the senior category. Among men, Artur Gafner claimed first place, while Alexey Khlystov finished second. In the hammer throw, Anastasia Kaloshina won gold in the senior women’s category, Valeria Loginova (U23) took second place, and Viktoria Shataeva (U20) finished third. Among men, Oleg Lyubimov (senior) and Aldiyar Kairollaev (U20) became champions, while Maksim Torlopov placed second in the U23 category.
