Amir Baitukanov took 3rd place at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization International Marathon

Last weekend, on December 1, the fourth International Marathon of the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) was held in the South-West of China in the city of Kunming, where two Kazakhstani athletes Mikhail Krasilov and Amir Baitukanov performed.

The competitions within the framework of the sports event were held in the following types:

Full marathon — 5,107 professional runners started;
Half marathon — 6304 people;
5,393 people took part in the “healthy race”;
The “Family run” gathered 3,123 people.

Mikhail Krasilov started at the 21 km half marathon, but left the track during the race.

Amir Baitukanov managed to overcome his marathon route more successfully and become the third among athletes from the SCO member states. The result of the Kazakhstani athlete is 2:35.21. He took 16th place in the overall standings.

The winner of this men’s race was Ethiopian track and field athlete Dereje Debele Tulu, who ran 42.195 km in 2:13.18, thereby setting a new marathon record for men.

Among women, the first place was taken by the representative of Ethiopia, Mulu Seboka Seifu, who reached the finish line in 2:35.54.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization International Marathon in Kunming has been held in December since 2016. Thousands of people take part in it, including professional athletes, as well as fans of a healthy lifestyle from many countries. At the end of 2019, the organizers of the Kunming Marathon applied for a gold license to draw attention to the competition of the fastest track and field athletes in the world. He currently holds the bronze status of World Athletics.

This time, about 20,000 runners from 33 countries arrived at the competition, including Kazakhstan, Russia, Afghanistan, Belarus, India, Iran, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, USA, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, France, Ethiopia and Japan.
