A boarding school for children gifted in sports has been opened in Ust-Kamenogorsk
December 22 will go down in the history of East Kazakhstan sports as the day when a modern boarding school for children gifted in sports opened its doors. After Olga Rypakova’s victory at the Olympic Games in London, the regional authorities, together with large companies of East Kazakhstan region, undertook the creation of a sports cluster in the regional center. In a short time, the Martial Arts Palace, Olga Rypakova’s Athletics Arena, and a swimming pool were built, and now the most promising athletes of the region will have the opportunity to train, study and live in one place.
Today, in honor of Independence Day in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Deputy Prime Minister and ex-akim of East Kazakhstan Region Berdybek Saparbayev, head of the region Danial Akhmetov and Chairman of the Board of Vostoktsvetmet LLP Ilsur Dautov solemnly opened a boarding school for children gifted in sports.
In his congratulatory speech, Deputy Prime Minister Berdybek Saparbayev noted that “the state pays great attention to the development of the social sphere and sports. Olga Rypakova’s victory at the Olympics gave a powerful impetus to the development of sports in the East Kazakhstan region. I would like to express my gratitude to the companies Kazakhmys, Kazzinc, Kazatomprom and Vostoktsvetmet, which allocated funds for the construction of this facility as part of a social partnership between the state and business. The total area of the boarding school is eleven thousand square meters. Now talented athletes of our region can improve their skills in a new boarding school under the guidance of experienced coaches.”

In our time, we did not have such conditions due to the difficult economic situation. Nevertheless, they studied well and achieved heights in sports. All conditions have been created for you to study and achieve in sports. I wish you good luck.”
The cost of the project is more than 1.5 billion tenge, two thirds of them are directed to construction and installation work, the remaining part is for the purchase of equipment and other expenses. About 350 schoolchildren of grades 7-11 will study at the new boarding school, while for 200 gifted children from the districts of the region who have passed the selection and have the appropriate sports category, this building will become a home and an educational temple. At the disposal of athletes are rooms for living, sports and gyms, a huge dining room for 200 people, a buffet, a room for storing sports equipment, a medical unit, offices for instructors and coaches, showers, locker rooms, an assembly hall, rest rooms. Already, the local library has a book collection of 9,000 copies of various educational, sports and fiction literature. This number will double when the boarding school is fully operational. In addition to classrooms, there are also separate rooms for providing psychological assistance. The undoubted advantage of the boarding school is the shooting range, which will be put into operation after finishing works. Abil Donbayev, Head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of East Kazakhstan Region, notes that Ust-Kamenogorsk boarding school is the only one in Kazakhstan that also has a shooting base.
They will begin to carry out all the volumes of the training and educational process here from the third quarter.
