Rules

In the 400-meter hurdles race, athletes start from a position lower than the starting positions. The barrier height is 91.4 CM for men and 76.2 cm for women. 10 barriers are placed at a distance, the distance between them is 35 meters, to the first barrier-45 meters.  An athlete who made a false start disqualified, the infraction is also considered to be a carry leg off the barrier.

History

As a separate species, the discipline began to develop in England from the middle of the XIX century.  The 400-meter hurdle sprint in mujchiner was included in the program of the Olympic Games in 1900, in women-in 1984. The distance was included in the world championship program in 1983 for men and women.

Interesting facts

Initially, the mistake was considered to allow the barrier to collapse during overcoming. Later, as in the 100-and 110-meter distances, it was found that the barrier itself slows down the athlete, and this rule was canceled. In 1984, na Al El Mutawakel from Morocco won an Olympic medal, becoming the first African Female Olympic champion.
