200 meters
Rules
200 meters – a race from the edge of the start line, farthest from the finish line, to the edge of the finish line, closest to the start, for a distance of 200 meters, is held on the treadmill of the stadium or arena. Each athlete must run on his own individual track with a width of at least 1.22 m and not more than 1.25 m, indicated by lines with a width of 5 cm. All tracks must be the same width. An athlete who makes a false start is disqualified, and a runner may also be disqualified if he or she goes outside his or her track.
History
Initially, in Ancient Greece, the distance at the Olympic Games was 192 m. The modern 200 metres (for men) were added to the Olympic program in 1900 and were part of all subsequent Games, with the exception of 1906. For women, the discipline has been included in the Olympic program since 1948.
The 200-meter distance has been included in the competition program since the first World Championship, held in 1983.
Interesting fact
The second half is 200 m. running is often faster than the first 100 m. When Usain Bolt set his 19.19 world record, he ran the second 100 m in 9.27 seconds.
