The primary successes of the EKR national team in flat racing were linked to the men’s side. Vladislav Sutyagin and Evgeniy Arkhipov put on a real show in the 400m distance. They hit the final straight together, leaving their competitors far behind. In the final meters, Sutyagin proved faster, edging out Arkhipov by just 0.36 seconds! Evgeniy, however, did not remain “just” a silver medalist for long. He went on to be the fastest in the 800m, beating the formidable Karaganda runner Duman Gabdygaliev by 0.69 seconds.
It appears that Ridder’s long-distance master Moldir Seitkhanova is regaining her former form. While the winter season was clearly unsuccessful for her, the beginning of summer has proven “fruitful” in terms of medals. To her “bronze” at 1500m, Moldir added an unconditional victory in the 3000m race! Seitkhanova outperformed her closest pursuer, Albosyn Zhupaeva, by nearly a minute in that triumphant run.
Ust-Kamenogorsk runner Oryngul Zkrienova is back on the winning track, taking first place in the 100m hurdles. Having recently returned to action after a difficult leg injury, she is already churning out victories one after another. Notably, EKR secured a double podium in this race: Erika Kem finished third. Erika also stood out with a convincing victory at this championship, bringing a gold medal to the EKR team in the shot put as the only athlete to send the shot past the 11m mark.
The javelin throw competitions concluded with a double victory for the EKR team. In the men’s event, Ust-Kamenogorsk athlete Artur Gafner was head and shoulders above the rest, outthrowing his competitors by nearly 20 meters! Among the women, Varvara Nazarova’s triumph was equally convincing.
High jumper Nadezhda Dubovitskaya from Semey also managed to win, though not with her most impressive result. It is evident that the coaches of last year’s Asian Junior Championship bronze medalist are not aiming for her peak performance at the very start of the season.
