100 meters

Rules

100 meters – a race from the edge of the start line, farthest from the finish line, to the edge of the finish line, closest to the start, for a distance of 100 meters in a straight line; held on the treadmill of a stadium or arena. The start of the race is made from the starting pads. Each athlete runs on his own individual track with a width of at least 1.22 m and not more than 1.25 m, marked with lines 5 cm wide. All tracks must be the same width. An athlete who makes a false start is disqualified.

History

The official first world record in the 100-meter race was set in 1912. In the same year, the International Association of Athletics Federations was established.

Donald Lippincott became the first record holder to run a hundred meters in 10.6 seconds. at the Stockholm Olympics.

Interesting fact

Since the 1966 European Championships, an electronic stopwatch has been used to record running time, measuring time up to a thousandth of a second (then rounded to a hundredth of a second).

Until 1966, time was measured to the tenth of a second.
