The performance of the Olympic gold medal winner Olga Rypakova became the main event of the first day of the 2017 Winter Championship of Kazakhstan in Ust-Kamenogorsk on February 10. And even in her non–core discipline, the long jump, she won like a champion, with a clear advantage.
Despite the fact that the Olympic champion will focus all her efforts on the summer season this year, she showed a decent result in the class – 6.44 meters, at least at the Asian level. At the same time, in two other attempts, she flew 6.41 and 6.37 meters, once again proving that stability is a sign of class.
The disappointing moment was that only 7 participants from four regions – East Kazakhstan, Karaganda, South Kazakhstan and North Kazakhstan – entered the long jump sector. The results of the second and third prize-winners are not high – 5.92 meters for Marina Ovchinnikova from Karaganda and 5.76 meters for Anna Gorodkova from Southern Kazakhstan. However, experts advise not to rush to far-reaching conclusions, paying attention, first of all, to Ovchinnikova. Karagandinka is only 18 years old and she has all the data to grow into a high–class international athlete.
