The new sports season opened with the Kazakhstan U20 Athletics Championship among juniors and the Cup of the Republic of Kazakhstan in athletics. The competition was held in the capital, at the QAZAQSTAN sports complex from January 10 to January 12, 2023. The national team of the East Kazakhstan region performed well in both competitions. ASTANA MEETING WORLD INDOOR ATHLETICS TOUR in Astana

On January 23, the ASTANA MEETING WORLD INDOOR ATHLETICS TOUR will be held at the QAZAQSTAN Athletics sports complex in Astana The World ATHLETICS INDOOR TOUR is an annual series of indoor athletics competitions that have been held since 2016. The series is modeled after the Diamond League in order to enhance the prestige of indoor athletics competitions. This series replaced the previous IAAF Indoor Permit Meetings series. In 2021, the tour introduced three levels of competition: gold, silver and bronze. Astana Meeting has the silver status of the competition. About 100 athletes from foreign teams are expected to participate. They compete in 12 types of athletics. In each type of competition, along with domestic athletes, 4 foreign athletes will be represented. The prize fund of each type is $4,000. This competition will enhance the prestige of domestic athletics at the international level and increase competition between athletes. Astana meeting will be one of the most prestigious competitions of the year in the field of athletics. Results of Astana Meeting World indoor tour

Kazakhstan is the first country to organize competitions of this level among the CIS countries. About 100 athletes took part in it. The tournament was officially opened by the minister of Culture and sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askhat Oralov and the president of the Athletics Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan Danial Akhmetov. “Athletes from fifteen countries have arrived in Astana to participate in the Astana Silver Grand Prix Meeting, which is being held for the first time today. The Republic of Kazakhstan this year, together with the USA, Germany, France, Serbia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, is part of the organizers of the silver level of the lightweight series”, – said the president of the Federation Danial Akhmetov. The participants of the tournament determined the best in 10 types of athletics. The competition began with the men’s hurdles 60 meters race. In this race, Cuban Rogers Iribarn (result 7.62 SEC.) won, ahead of our compatriot David Efremov (7.65 SEC.) only hundredths of a second. Recall that within the framework of the tournament, David Efremov broke the record of Kazakhstan with the result of 7.62 seconds. in the preliminary race. American Michael Rogers won the men’s 60-meter race. He ran this distance in 6.664 seconds. Olga Rypakova announced her retirement

Olympic champion and multiple Olympic medalist, Russian track and field athlete Olga Rypakova has officially completed her professional career.
