Rules

Athletes in the 1500-meter race start with a high start and a common starting position. At major competitions such as the Olympic Games and the World Championships, it is held in 3 rounds, i.e. preliminary races, semifinals and the final race. In commercial competitions, a single final race is held.

History

The 1500-meter run has been included in the Olympic Games program for men since 1896 and for women since 1972. It is included in the men’s athletics decathlon program.

Interesting facts

When Hisham El Guerrouj set a world record of 3:26.00 in Rome in 1998, he ran every lap in less than 55 seconds.
